The<\/span> <\/span>Unified<\/span> <\/span>Protocol<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>Transdiagnostic<\/span> <\/span>Treatment<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>Emotional<\/span> <\/span>Disorders<\/span> in <\/span>Children<\/span> (UP-C) <\/span>is<\/span> a cognitive-<\/span>behavioral<\/span> <\/span>therapy<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>adopts<\/span> a <\/span>transdiagnostic<\/span> <\/span>treatment<\/span> <\/span>approach<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>simultaneous<\/span> <\/span>treatment<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>several<\/span> <\/span>emotional<\/span> <\/span>disorders<\/span> (i.e., <\/span>anxiety<\/span> and <\/span>depressive<\/span> <\/span>disorders<\/span>), <\/span>by<\/span> <\/span>addressing<\/span> <\/span>shared<\/span> <\/span>mechanisms<\/span> <\/span>underlying<\/span> <\/span>these<\/span> <\/span>disorders<\/span> and <\/span>applying<\/span> a <\/span>common<\/span> set <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>strategies<\/span> (<\/span>e.g<\/span>., <\/span>exposure<\/span>, mindfulness). <\/span>It<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> <\/span>an<\/span> <\/span>extension<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>adult<\/span> UP <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>children<\/span> (7-13 <\/span>years<\/span>) <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>delivers<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> UP <\/span>core<\/span> <\/span>components<\/span> in <\/span>an<\/span> interactive and <\/span>child-friendly<\/span> <\/span>group<\/span> <\/span>format<\/span> <\/span>with<\/span> <\/span>parents<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>participation<\/span>. In <\/span>this<\/span> <\/span>symposium<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>some<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>findings<\/span> <\/span>from<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>research<\/span> <\/span>projects<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> Portuguese UP-C <\/span>research<\/span> <\/span>team<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> <\/span>currently<\/span> <\/span>developing<\/span>. In <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>first<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>development<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> a <\/span>blended<\/span> <\/span>version<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> UP-C (i.e., a <\/span>version<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>includes<\/span> <\/span>face-to-face<\/span>, online <\/span>self-guided<\/span> and online <\/span>therapist-guided<\/span> <\/span>sessions<\/span>), as <\/span>well<\/span> as <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>protocol<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>randomized<\/span> <\/span>controlled<\/span> trial <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> be <\/span>used<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> test <\/span>its<\/span> <\/span>efficacy<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>second<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>address<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>acceptability<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>blended<\/span> <\/span>psychological<\/span> <\/span>interventions<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>treating<\/span> <\/span>children’s<\/span> <\/span>emotional<\/span> <\/span>disorders<\/span> <\/span>among<\/span> <\/span>parents<\/span> and mental <\/span>health<\/span> <\/span>professionals<\/span>. In <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>third<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span>, <\/span>we<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>findings<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> a <\/span>pilot<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>designed<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>investigate<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>feasibility<\/span> and <\/span>acceptability<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> a <\/span>stepped<\/span> care <\/span>version<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> UP-C in <\/span>the<\/span> Portuguese <\/span>population<\/span>. A <\/span>fourth<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>protocol<\/span> and <\/span>feasibility<\/span> <\/span>study<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> a <\/span>child-centered<\/span> <\/span>version<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> UP-C. <\/span>Finally<\/span>, <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>findings<\/span> <\/span>from<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> Portuguese <\/span>efficacy<\/span> trial <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> standard <\/span>version<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> UP-C <\/span>will<\/span> be <\/span>presented<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Helena Moreira is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Coimbra (UC), Portugal, as well as an Integrated Member of the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioral Intervention of the UC. Her primary research interests include the areas of perinatal mental health and the application of mindfulness and compassion to study of parenting. She has developed and tested the effectiveness of an Internet-based mindful parenting intervention for mothers in the postpartum period and is involved in several research projects in this area. She has also interest in the area of child mental health and has spent the last few years working on the development of alternative versions (stepped-care and blended versions) of the Unified Protocol for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders in children for the Portuguese population.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
