Quantitative<\/span> <\/span>studies<\/span> are more <\/span>common<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>evaluate<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>effectiveness<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>intervention<\/span> <\/span>programs<\/span>, <\/span>with<\/span> <\/span>fewer<\/span> <\/span>qualitative<\/span> <\/span>studies<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>aim<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>this<\/span> <\/span>symposium<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>qualitative<\/span> data <\/span>on<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>effectiveness<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>intervention<\/span> <\/span>programs<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>teachers<\/span> and <\/span>children<\/span>\/<\/span>adolescents<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>first<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>present<\/span> <\/span>teachers<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>expectations<\/span> and <\/span>perceptions<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>impact<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>Incredible<\/span> <\/span>Years<\/span>\u00ae-<\/span>Teacher<\/span> <\/span>Classroom<\/span> Management <\/span>program<\/span> (IY-TCM) training <\/span>on<\/span> <\/span>themselves<\/span> <\/span>using<\/span> a <\/span>pre-post<\/span> <\/span>design<\/span>. <\/span>Preschool<\/span> <\/span>teachers<\/span> <\/span>participated<\/span> <\/span>into<\/span> <\/span>two<\/span> <\/span>focus<\/span> <\/span>groups<\/span>, <\/span>before<\/span> and after <\/span>completing<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> training. <\/span>Results<\/span> <\/span>indicated<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span>, <\/span>before<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> training, <\/span>teachers<\/span> <\/span>felt<\/span> <\/span>exhausted<\/span> <\/span>but<\/span> <\/span>enthusiastic<\/span> <\/span>about<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> training. After <\/span>the<\/span> training, <\/span>teachers<\/span> <\/span>felt<\/span> more <\/span>self-confident<\/span> and <\/span>valued<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>management<\/span> <\/span>tools<\/span> <\/span>acquired<\/span>, <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>sharing<\/span> and <\/span>support<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>second<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> explore <\/span>teachers<\/span>\u2019 <\/span>views<\/span> <\/span>on<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>sustainability<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> IY-TCM <\/span>program<\/span>. <\/span>Twenty-five<\/span> UK <\/span>primary<\/span> <\/span>school<\/span> <\/span>teachers<\/span> <\/span>participated<\/span> in <\/span>three<\/span> <\/span>focus<\/span> <\/span>groups<\/span> and 10 <\/span>individual interviews<\/span>, <\/span>one<\/span> <\/span>year<\/span> after <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>end<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> training. <\/span>Findings<\/span> <\/span>suggest<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>teachers<\/span> <\/span>were<\/span> <\/span>still<\/span> <\/span>using<\/span> and <\/span>benefiting<\/span> <\/span>from<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>program<\/span> <\/span>one<\/span> <\/span>year<\/span> <\/span>later<\/span>. <\/span>However<\/span>, <\/span>barriers<\/span> <\/span>related<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>organizational<\/span> and <\/span>wider<\/span> contextual <\/span>factors<\/span> <\/span>need<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> be <\/span>addressed<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>promote<\/span> <\/span>sustainability<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>third<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>focus<\/span> <\/span>on<\/span> #EntreViagenseAprendizagens, a <\/span>school-based<\/span> <\/span>intervention<\/span> <\/span>aimed<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>promote<\/span> <\/span>well-being<\/span> and <\/span>healthy<\/span> <\/span>lifestyles<\/span> <\/span>among<\/span> <\/span>adolescents<\/span>, <\/span>based<\/span> <\/span>on<\/span> social and <\/span>emotional<\/span> <\/span>learning<\/span>, positive <\/span>psychology<\/span>, and <\/span>health<\/span> <\/span>education<\/span> <\/span>approaches<\/span>. <\/span>Qualitative<\/span> data (<\/span>focus<\/span> <\/span>groups<\/span>) <\/span>revealed<\/span> <\/span>high<\/span> <\/span>satisfaction<\/span> <\/span>with<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>program<\/span>. <\/span>Topics<\/span> <\/span>considered<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>most<\/span> <\/span>important<\/span> <\/span>learnings<\/span> (<\/span>e.g<\/span>., mental <\/span>health<\/span>, social-<\/span>emotional<\/span> <\/span>skills<\/span>), and <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>processes<\/span> <\/span>most<\/span> <\/span>relevant<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>achieve<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>objectives<\/span> (<\/span>e.g<\/span>., debates, <\/span>group<\/span> <\/span>activities<\/span>), are <\/span>discussed<\/span>. <\/span>The<\/span> <\/span>last<\/span> <\/span>communication<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> <\/span>based<\/span> <\/span>on<\/span> PROMEHS, <\/span>an<\/span> Erasmus<\/span>+ Project <\/span>aiming<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>develop<\/span>, <\/span>implement<\/span> and <\/span>evaluate<\/span> a <\/span>curriculum<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>promote<\/span> mental <\/span>health<\/span> at <\/span>schools<\/span>. <\/span>It<\/span> <\/span>is<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>first<\/span> mental <\/span>health<\/span> <\/span>curriculum<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> be <\/span>developed<\/span> <\/span>collaboratively<\/span> <\/span>by<\/span> <\/span>researchers<\/span>, <\/span>policymakers<\/span>, and <\/span>scientific<\/span> <\/span>associations<\/span> <\/span>from<\/span> 20 <\/span>Institutions<\/span> <\/span>across<\/span> <\/span>seven<\/span> <\/span>European<\/span> <\/span>countries<\/span> (<\/span>e.g<\/span>., <\/span>Latvia<\/span>, Portugal, Romania). <\/span>Results<\/span> <\/span>showed<\/span> positive <\/span>results<\/span> <\/span>regarding<\/span> <\/span>socioemotional<\/span> <\/span>competencies<\/span> <\/span>acquisition<\/span> and <\/span>decreased<\/span> <\/span>internalizing<\/span> and <\/span>externalizing<\/span> <\/span>problems<\/span> <\/span>among<\/span> <\/span>students<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofia Major<\/span> is a psychologist, with a PhD in Psychological Assessment from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra (FPCE-UC). She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology at the Faculty of <\/span>Social and Human Sciences –<\/span> University of the Azores (<\/span>UAc<\/span>). She was also an invited Assistant Professor at FPCE-UC and at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the University of Beira Interior<\/span> (UBI)<\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>She is an integrated member of the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioral Inte<\/span>rvention (CINEICC; FPCE-UC)<\/span>. She<\/span> is also an E<\/span>ffective Member of the <\/span>Portuguese Psychologists<\/span> Association (OPP)<\/span>, specialist<\/span> in Clinical and Health Psychology. Member of the <\/span>PsyAssessmentLab<\/span> (Psychological Assessment and Psychometrics Laboratory) of the FPCE-UC and of the European Association of Psychological Assessment (EAPA).<\/span> She <\/span>p<\/span>articipated<\/span> in several research proj<\/span>ects in the field<\/span> of \u200b\u200bassessment and intervention w<\/span>ith preschool children<\/span>, being the PI on the financed research project \u201c<\/span><\/span>Incredible Teachers + Happy Children = The IY<\/span><\/span>\u00ae<\/span><\/span>-TCM program in the Azores<\/span><\/span>\u201d. <\/span>She is trained in the Incredible Years\u00ae Parent program and is a Certified Leader in the Teacher Classroom Management (TCM) program.<\/span> <\/span>She<\/span> has several national and international communications.
