Following <\/span>these<\/span> <\/span>events<\/span>, <\/span>most<\/span> <\/span>children<\/span> and <\/span>adolescents<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>exhibit<\/span> <\/span>mild<\/span> <\/span>or<\/span> <\/span>moderate<\/span> negative <\/span>psychological<\/span> <\/span>reactions<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> are <\/span>considered<\/span> normal <\/span>given<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>severity<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>event<\/span> and <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>begin<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>decrease<\/span> <\/span>within<\/span> a <\/span>few<\/span> <\/span>days<\/span>. <\/span>However<\/span>, in <\/span>other<\/span> <\/span>children<\/span>, <\/span>these<\/span> <\/span>reactions<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> be more intense, <\/span>pervasive<\/span>, and <\/span>frequent<\/span> <\/span>or<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>not<\/span> <\/span>decrease<\/span> <\/span>over<\/span> time, <\/span>leading<\/span> <\/span>to<\/span> <\/span>impairment<\/span> in <\/span>important<\/span> <\/span>areas<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>functioning<\/span>. <\/span>Among<\/span> <\/span>these<\/span> <\/span>reactions<\/span>, <\/span>those<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> stand <\/span>out<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>their<\/span> <\/span>high<\/span> <\/span>frequency<\/span> are <\/span>understood<\/span> <\/span>under<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>construct<\/span> <\/span>of<\/span> <\/span>posttraumatic<\/span> stress <\/span>disorder<\/span> (PTSD). <\/span>This<\/span> <\/span>conference<\/span> <\/span>will<\/span> <\/span>address<\/span> <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>latest<\/span> <\/span>advances<\/span> in <\/span>defining<\/span> PTSD in <\/span>children<\/span> and <\/span>adolescents<\/span>, <\/span>its<\/span> <\/span>differential<\/span> <\/span>characteristics<\/span> <\/span>with<\/span> PTSD in <\/span>adults<\/span>, <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>key<\/span> <\/span>symptoms<\/span> <\/span>that<\/span> <\/span>allow<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>its<\/span> <\/span>identification<\/span>, and <\/span>the<\/span> <\/span>most<\/span> <\/span>effective<\/span> <\/span>therapies<\/span> <\/span>for<\/span> <\/span>its<\/span> <\/span>treatment<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
