Rikard K. Wicksell, PhD, is<\/span> professor<\/span> of<\/span> clinical<\/span> health<\/span> psychology and head of the research<\/span> group<\/span> Behavioral Medicine<\/span><\/i>\u202fat the Department<\/span> of<\/span> Clinical<\/span> Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet. He is also a clinical<\/span> psychologist and head of<\/span> research and development at the Pain<\/span> Clinic, Capio St Goran Hospital, Stockholm<\/span> Sweden. As a clinical<\/span> researcher in the field<\/span> of<\/span> behavioral medicine, he has since 2001 developed a treatment<\/span> model and a clinical<\/span> research<\/span> program<\/span> for<\/span> adult and pediatric<\/span> chronic<\/span> pain<\/span> patients<\/span> based<\/span> on<\/span> Acceptance and Commitment<\/span> Therapy (ACT). His<\/span> ongoing<\/span> translational<\/span> research<\/span> program<\/span> includes<\/span> studies<\/span> related to treatment<\/span> evaluation<\/span> (<\/span>outcome and change<\/span> processes<\/span>), <\/span>predictors and moderators<\/span> of<\/span> change, the role and function<\/span> of<\/span> biological<\/span> processes in pain and behavioral<\/span> treatment<\/span>, <\/span>measurement<\/span> development, parental and family<\/span> factors in pediatric<\/span> chronic<\/span> pain<\/span>, <\/span>neuropsychiatric<\/span> comorbidity in pediatric<\/span> chronic<\/span> pain, and pain in a life<\/span> course<\/span> perspective<\/span>. <\/span>During the past 7 years, a main<\/span> focus has been<\/span> on agile development<\/span> of digital health<\/span> solutions to increase<\/span> resilience and functioning in adult and pediatric<\/span> chronic<\/span> pain. He has published<\/span> close to 100 papers in the field<\/span> of<\/span> adult and pediatric<\/span> behavioral<\/span> health<\/span>, <\/span>written<\/span> numerous<\/span> book<\/span> chapter and is the author<\/span> of the self-help<\/span> book<\/span> \u201d<\/span>Living<\/span><\/i> with<\/span><\/i> pain – ACT as a life<\/span><\/i> strategy<\/span><\/i>\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The digital revolution has dramatically changed health care, and the possibilities to make behavioral treatments available have never been better.<\/p>\n

The prevalence and implications of pediatric chronic pain call for further development and dissemination of evidence-based behavioral health programs to improve resilience and functioning. Today, few patients have access to such treatment.<\/p>\n

Digital solutions can provide user-friendly, tailored, self-management programs that are cost-effective and accessible.<\/p>\n

Numerous pain management apps have been developed by the industry, but rarely tested using scientific standards. However, few digital interventions developed in academia reach clinical practice. Thus, increasing access to evidence-based digital behavioral health appears a remaining challenge.<\/p>\n

In this talk, a model for scientific innovation<\/em> will be presented combining key features from industry with methodological rigor from research. The ongoing DAHLIA project is used to illustrate the process, including user-centered development, individual-level evaluation in a series of optimization studies<\/em>, and identification of barriers and facilitators of implementation.<\/p>\n

Results from the DAHLIA-prototype development as well as related projects will be discussed, including the tailoring of DAHLIA for young cancer survivors with remaining symptoms.<\/p>\n
