Techniques for Improving Socioemotional Skills in Early Childhood

In recent years, the importance of promoting preventive interventions in childhood has been increasingly emphasized, particularly in the socio-emotional domain. Evidence shows that emotional difficulties can emerge at an early age, underscoring the need for strategies that strengthen emotional and social competencies from the very beginning. This conference will address the development of preventive tools in early childhood, highlighting the value of incorporating universal, evidence-based interventions in educational settings. Given the scarcity of evidence-based programs targeting the preschool stage with Spanish populations, efficacy results of the SuperKids program will be presented. This innovative initiative focuses on fostering emotional regulation and social skills in children aged 4 to 6 years. The program was designed to be implemented in school contexts, promoting accessibility and integration of its contents into children’s daily lives. In studies with Spanish children, it has been observed to enhance their ability to recognize and understand emotions, as well as to interact positively with peers. These improvements not only have an immediate impact on their well-being but also serve as protective factors against the emergence of emotional difficulties in later stages. The experience with SuperKids highlights the fundamental role that socio-emotional education plays in building healthy development and promoting children’s long-term well-being.
